TCL is preparing to launch the NXTPAPER 11 Plus, an Android tablet that can transition into an ePaper-like mode for eye comfort and reading.
The NXTPAPER 11 Plus appears to be an iterative upgrade over its predecessor, the original NXTPAPER 11. Both models have an 11-inch display, a circular rear camera array, and an edge-to-edge design. However, the new NXTPAPER 11 Plus promises more accurate colors, improved image sharpness, reduced blue light output, and a range of AI-powered screen adjustment tools.
These upgrades come courtesy of NXTPAPER 4.0, a new generation of TCL’s paper-like display technology. NXTPAPER 4.0 is the first NXTPAPER implementation to achieve 100% sRGB color gamut coverage, meaning that TCL’s new tablet should be a more viable option for video consumption and creative applications. NXTPAPER 4.0 is also notable for its “AI-driven” Smart Eye Comfort and Personalized Eye Comfort modes, which automatically optimize screen brightness, contrast, and color temperature for “diverse usage scenarios” and “user preferences.” Similar functionality existed in previous-gen NXTPAPER products, sans AI.
Unfortunately, TCL hasn’t announced the NXTPAPER 11 Plus’ full specs. Its predecessor, the standard NXTPAPER 11, was widely criticized for its somewhat low-res 2000 x 1200 display and underpowered MediaTek Helio P60T processor—I hope that the Plus model improves in these areas, but I suspect that the NXTPAPER 4.0 implementation is this tablet’s defining feature.
I should also note that some of the display upgrades seen in TCL’s NXTPAPER 11 Plus tablet, such as the improved NXPAPER Key mode, are also featured in the new 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G smartphone. Both products debuted at CES 2025.
TCL hasn’t provided a release date for the NXTPAPER 11 Plus tablet. Pricing is also unknown, but the original NXTPAPER 11 sold for $230 and is now discontinued. I assume that the new model is slightly more expensive than its predecessor, or possibly the same price.
